In the Upstate on Friday, August 25th, 2017, people of all ages and backgrounds came to support the CHOP! Cancer Culinary Event. It was sponsored by McKinney Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, and it featured eighteen local celebrities cooking fantastic things in the kitchen. Each of the dishes featured cancer-fighting ingredients and were judged by professional chefs.
The event was commemorating the Cancer Survivors Park Alliance and the Cancer Survivors Park which will be located between Church and Cleveland Street in Downtown Greenville. This beautiful park will serve the survivors and families of loved ones by providing a loving community.
The cooks desired to engage the viewers as well as educate and empower the lives of anyone who has been affected by cancer in some shape or form. During the event, a silent auction was being held while individuals enjoyed complimentary drinks and Hors d’oeuvres. Several booths were set up for more information about the park and the construction behind it.
Sponsors included the Greenville Health System, the Gibbs Cancer Center and Research Institute, Bon Secours, Virginia College in Greenville, TALK Greenville, Upstate Plastic Surgery, and many more. Placed throughout the event were posters telling the stories of survivors and those who passed on from this life into the next. Their stories were impactful as well as eye-opening into the world in which these people lived for months and years.
